Sylvia Bruner Zickel The world became a little quieter and a lot less funny on January 7, 2026, when Sylvia Bruner Zickel suddenly passed away at the age of 84. She was born to George and Grace Bruner on November 20, 1941, in Louisville, Kentucky.

Sylvia was the seventh of eight children, all of which predeceased her but her younger brother Jerry. She carried her Kentucky roots with pride, remaining a loyal UK fan throughout her life, unless they were playing the Razorbacks. Sylvia was a creator at heart—whether she was lost in a good book, working on a craft project, or baking in the kitchen. Her pecan and apple pies were not just desserts; they were an experience, cherished by anyone lucky enough to get a slice. But it was her spirit that truly defined her.

Known affectionately as "Sly"; she was famous for her quick wit and shocking sense of humor. She was always ready with a joke that could stop you in your tracks and leave you laughing until you cried. Above all, Sylvia loved her family. Her favorite role in life was being "Nana"; to her grandchildren, Melanie and Sam, whom she adored endlessly.

Sylvia is survived by her daughter Patti Griffey and son-in-law Phil of Maumelle. Favorite granddaughter Melanie Grace of Little Rock, favorite grandson Samuel Charles of Maumelle, her brother and sister in-law Jerry and Marilyn of New Jersey as well as many nieces and nephews and friends. She will be greatly missed by her beloved four- legged companions, Zuzu and Cleo.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 17, 2026, 1-3 pm at the Maumelle branch of CALS. 10 Lake Pointe Drive, Maumelle, AR.
