Thomas J. Greifenstein, age 45, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. He will be remembered for his kind heart, his dedication to service, his love of animals, and his passion for music and the arts.

Thomas was born on 09/03/1979, in Staten Island and was an only child. As a child, he loved baseball and played from the ages of 7-17. He graduated from Tottenville High School in Staten Island, New York, then went on to The Borough of Manhattan College and Portland Community College.

During his adult life, Thomas served his country as a U.S. Army Combat Medic. He was also committed to serving social causes in his community. He spent the last 20 years of his life in Little Rock, Arkansas, and worked for the Wolfe Street Foundation, in customer service, and most recently, in career services for adults experiencing homelessness at Our House in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Thomas absolutely loved his two pet dogs, Olivia and Louie, and he carried the spirit of his former pup, Ebby, with him always in his heart. He was a great advocate for animals, and truly believed that his dogs were his best companions.

Thomas had many dear friends from different periods of his life, including his deep involvement with the recovery community in Central Arkansas.

Thomas was a creative person, and he enjoyed film, photography and writing prose. He had an amazing record collection, and enjoyed listening to music and attending live music shows.

Thomas was passionate about social justice, and believed deeply in advocating for those less fortunate around him. He helped countless individuals through service, he had a servant’s heart, he had a tender heart.

Thomas is survived by Ellen Greifenstein, his mother; two uncles, Donald and Eric Shiele; and one aunt, Donna Gloeckner. A celebration of life will be held at a later date for Thomas’ Arkansas friends and family.

Donations can be sent to Last Chance Arkansas lastchancear.org. advocating for abused or neglected animals across the state.
