Thomas Loyd

Thomas O. Loyd, 88, of Malvern, passed away on January 8 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. He was born on June 4, 1929 in Alpine, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie E. and Carrie Thomason Loyd; brothers Lawrence and Gurvis, and sisters Lucretia, Wanda Lee, Pat, Rachel, and Mae Rene.

He graduated high school at Amity in 1950, and later joined the U.S. Navy where he spent 4 years on the USS Philippine Sea aircraft carrier during the Korean War.

Upon returning home in 1954, he married Geraldine Brown, his wife of 63 years. He then attended college at Henderson State University before taking a job as a Brick Mason with Reynolds Metals Company in Malvern where he retired. They had one son, Thomas Britt Loyd of North Little Rock.

Visitation will be 6-8 PM Thursday at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home.

The funeral will be on Friday, January 12, at 2:00 pm at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia. Burial will be at the Alpine Cemetery in Alpine. Reverend John McAnally will officiate and pallbearers will be his son Thomas Britt Loyd, nephew Larry Balentine, nephew Johnny Williams, nephew Mark Williams, great nephew Jason Vick, and family friend Kent Douglas.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Amity or to any local animal shelter or society.
