Thomas "Tommy" Lyons, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on May 7, 2025, in Sherwood, Arkansas, after bravely fighting a long and hard battle with cancer. Born on January 7, 1951, in Little Rock, Tommy’s journey through life was marked by both hard work and the unwavering love he shared with his family. Tommy’s early work life began at the tender age of 16 at Kentucky Fried Chicken, where fate led him to meet the love of his life, Judy. Their bond blossomed from those youthful days, growing stronger over the cherished years that followed. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with joy, shared experiences, and unyielding support for one another. With a keen business acumen, Tommy dedicated over 20 years to his investment in Mexico Chiquito, where he became known for his success and expertise. His passion for food didn't stop there; he ambitiously took his culinary skills on the road, investing in a large concession trailer that allowed him and Judy to travel the state, delighting people's taste buds at fairs and festivals. For 14 years, he held a food and beverage contract with the Arkansas State Fair Grounds, followed by another 5 years of overseeing the food and beverage operations at the 4H center. Tommy was not just a businessman; he was a man with a wealth of knowledge who shared his expertise generously.
Proudly graduating from North Little Rock High School in 1969 and pursuing further education at a local college, Tommy valued education and self-improvement. Those who knew him describe Tommy as a hard worker—an undeniable workaholic—with a vibrant personality that drew others to him. He never met a stranger and had an innate ability to connect with people, often leaving a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to cross his path. A loving and generous soul, he would give you the shirt off his back, embodying a spirit of kindness that resonated with everyone around him.
Tommy’s life was enriched by his family. He cherished the time spent with Judy, sharing unforgettable experiences such as attending concerts in their youth, fishing trips, movie outings, and countless moments spent with friends. His two sons, Jeff and Keith, held a special place in his heart, particularly during their beloved fishing trips at Gaston's on the White River. Tommy's joy only multiplied with the arrival of his grandchildren—Alexis, Max, Sunny, and Jaxon—who he adored deeply, pampering them in the way only a loving grandfather could.
Among his many hobbies, Tommy had a keen passion for cooking and was a true foodie who thrived in the kitchen. His enthusiasm was palpable, especially as he expressed his loyalty as a Razorback fan, often “Calling those HOGS!” at any opportunity. He also took great delight in decorating for Christmas, transforming his home with the enchanting Dickens Village and North Pole Village displays, bringing warmth and holiday cheer to all who visited.
Tommy's legacy will forever resonate in the hearts of all who knew him. His proudest accomplishment, a 48-year marriage to his beloved Judy, serves as a testament to the deep love and commitment he had for his family. He fiercely adored his children and grandchildren, showering them with affection and attention that made them feel cherished.
He joins in eternal rest his parents, Buddy and Idalee Lyons, and his brothers, Michael and Colin Lyons. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Judy Lyons; his loving sons, Jeff (Christina) and Keith (Biz) Lyons; and his treasured grandchildren, Alexis, Max, Sunny, and Jaxon Lyons.
A visitation in honor of Tommy will be held on May 16, 2025, at Smith Family Funeral Home in North Little Rock, Arkansas, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. As we celebrate Tommy’s life, we remember a man who truly embodied the essence of love, laughter, and kindness, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. His spirit will continue to inspire us all.
