Thomas Harold Riggs, age 91, died on July 29, 2013.
Harold was a longtime resident of North Little Rock, AR, and then Little Rock. He was a World War II veteran, serving in Iran with the Army Persian Gulf Command. He was a decades long member of Park Hill Baptist Church in North Little Rock, where he taught Royal Ambassadors in Park Hill's early years and Sunday School classes, and served as a Deacon. He also taught Sunday School in nursing homes and faithfully visited home-bound church members. In later years he was a member of the Tele-Bible group of Immanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock. After his retirement as owner of Riggs Glass and Mirror Co., Wonder State Glass, and as an employee at AP&L, he volunteered countless hours at the North Little Rock Baptist Hospital, even well into his 80's. He also performed Cajun comedy routines for various parties, events, nursing homes, and reunions under the name Pierre Boudreaux. He was a lifetime member of the North Little Rock Lion's Club, serving in numerous capacities including President, and a lifetime member of the Albert Pike Masonic Lodge.
He was born on October 15, 1921 to Ernest & Frankie Riggs, and had 4 brothers; Thurman Riggs, Bill Riggs, Don Riggs, and Doyan C. Stokes. All but Don predeceased him. He was married for 60 years to the love of his life, Bernice Daniel Riggs, who also predeceased him. They had 4 children, Thomas Riggs, Jr, Steve Riggs, Dana Riggs Hudspeth, and Deby Riggs Wood. Two of his children predeceased him, Tommy (who also died on July 29th 13 years ago) and Dana. Besides his two surviving children, he is survived by daughters-in-law Stella Riggs and Janinne Riggs, sons-in-law Johnny Hudspeth and Neal Wood, sisters-in-law Marilyn Riggs and Rilma Riggs, brother- and sister-in law Royce and Edwana Daniel, grandchildren Kelly Riggs Hollowell, Steve Riggs, Rennie Riggs, J.D. Hudspeth, Heath Hudspeth, Stephanie Hudspeth Parker, Kerry Wood, T.J. Wood, and Krissie Wood Talley, and 19 great-grandchildren. He loved each of them with all his heart.
Harold had a quick wit, a ready smile, and a loving heart. He was a true people person, and was beloved by family, friends, and most everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by all.
A celebration to honor his life will be held on Thursday, Aug 1st at 2:00 p.m., at Park Hill Baptist Church in North Little Rock. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., before the service at the church. Cremation interment will be at a later date at Stoney Point Cemetery in Beebe.
