Toland Jay Stelter, age 94, passed away on January 19, 2024, in Perryville AR. He was a beloved father, brother, and friend to many.

He was born on July 14, 1929, in Nashville, Arkansas, the son of Huey Calvin Stelter and Lela Zelma Ponder Stelter. He is preceded in death by his parents; and his five sisters Dovie Morris, Nola Tankersly, Maxine Holder, Betty Jones, and Johnnie Stelter. he is also proceeded in death by his ex-wife, Hildegard Stelter, with whom he maintained a close relationship.

Toland served his country with honor and dedication as a member of the United States Army for 27 years in many parts of the world. His commitment led him to achieve the rank of master sergeant. His military service was a source of pride for him and he made lifelong friendships during that time. Outside of his military career, Toland lived in Conway, AR. and Anderson, IN, where he was an active member of St. Mary’s Church. He had a deep love for his family and thoroughly enjoyed tracing his lineage back to Germany. Toland will be remembered for his kind heart and gentle nature. He leaves behind many fond memories cherished by those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Eric and Susan Stelter of Utah and Herb and Caroline Stelter of Virginia; his three daughters and sons-in-law, Monika and Rick Swain of New Jersey, Marguerite Paul and Teddy Bishop of Conway, and Ursula Westmoreland of Conway; 12 grandchildren, numerous great and great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends. A special mention of the close relationship and the care he received while in Anderson, Indiana, by his nieces Diane Anderson, Sandy Yanez, and Carol Head.

Visitation will be held at 9:00 AM Friday, January 26, 2024 at Smith Family Funeral Home Chapel-Glenwood with a celebration of life service immediately to follow at 10:00 AM with Bro. Bobby Lock officiating.

Interment will be held at Palestine Cemetery.
