Tommie Hays

Tommie Benton Hays, age 77 of Arkdelphia died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006 at St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock. He was born Nov. 3, 1928 at Black Springs, in Montgomery County, the son of General Lee Hays and Virgie May Crain Hays. He was a retired production worker for Reynolds Metal, a member of Baring Cross Missionary Baptist Church, the Falcon Club, the Arkie Stars Square Dance Club and a avid square dance caller and promoter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his father, and two sisters, Veda Lee Jones and Verna Ann Purifoy.


Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Jo Wingfield Hays; his mother, Virgie May Sparks of Arkadelphia; three brothers, Vendon Hays of Clarksville, AR, William Floyd Sparks of Levelland, TX and James Edward Sparks of Whelen Springs, AR; one sister, Glenda Fay Currey of Gurdon.


Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006 in Baring Cross Baptist Church with Bryon Eubanks officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Pallbearers will be Glenn Good, Steve Henningan, Dennis Williams, Floyd Currey, Gary Prather and David Wright. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Bear, Richard Parthum, Wallace Beard, and the Arkie Stars Square Dance Club.
