Vernetta Jester

Vernetta Jester, age 89, of Newhope, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 12, 2024.

She was born in Newhope on May 5, 1935, the daughter of Alex and Allie Logan Simmons. She was preceded in death by her parents; the love of her life, Lloyd Jester; two sisters, Ova Hammock and Iva Neal; her five brothers, Griffin, Luther, James, Delmer, and Seldon Simmons; her three children, Ronald, Ricky, and Tim Jester; and her granddaughter, Amy Coffman. 

Vernetta was married to Lloyd on November 20, 1951. She was a member at Daisy Church of Christ. She worked for many years from Poulan Weedeater in Nashville until she retired on June 20, 1997. Vernetta was in the class of 1953 at Dierks High School. She loved crocheting, gardening, and looking at Facebook. Most of all Vernetta loved spending time with her friends and family. Vernetta was a wonderful, wife, mother, and memaw and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Debra Jester of Arkadelphia; her two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Gordon Coffman and Janette and Rocky McBay all of Newhope; her thirteen grandchildren, Adam Coffman of Kirby, Matt Coffman of Maumelle, Katelyn and Jeptha Thibault of Mountain Home, Josh Daniel and Virginia Jester of Hot Springs, Lindsey and Jay Sherrin of Highland Village, TX, Zac and Chelsey Jester of Mt. Vernon, TX, Seth and Rachel McBay of Dierks, Bethany and Alex Hill of Bauxite; her twenty-one great-grandchildren; her two great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of wonderful friends.

Pallbearers will be Benny Simmons, Gene Simmons, Gary Simmons, Delmas Simmons, Russell Young, and Cole Hammock .

Honorary Pallbearers are Elite Home Hospice, Jocelyn Laxamana, Ashton Stuard, Luke Jamison, and Linda Boggio.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Southern Christian Home, 100 W Harding Street, Morrilton, AR 72110

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM prior to services at the Smith Family Funeral Home Chapel- Glenwood.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Smith Family Funeral Chapel- Glenwood with Roger Cox, Wes Howard, and Harold Vaughn officiating.

Interment will be held at Mt. Joy Cemetery.
