Walter “Sonny” Phelps, 88, of North Little Rock, Arkansas went to be with the Lord October 10, 2019 at Little Rock Veterans Hospital. He was born April 24, 1931 in Booneville, Arkansas to the late Hubert and Beatrice Phelps.
Sonny was a member of Levy United Methodist Church. He graduated from Kemper Military School and attended University of Arkansas at Little Rock and Oklahoma University where he was active in R.O.T.C. He was a member of the Honor Society, marching band in which he played the trombone, and the wrestling team. Sonny proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of several clubs including the Arkansas River Yacht Club where he was elected Commodore, and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Sonny was a leading producer at American National Insurance and was the owner and operator of Phelps Hydraulics as an engineer.
Sonny leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of sixty years, Glenda K. Phelps of North Little Rock, Arkansas; children: David Phelps and wife Susan of Memphis, Tennessee, Walter “Butch” Phelps of Marianna, Arkansas, and Steven Byron Phelps and wife Dana of Little Rock, Arkansas; six grandchildren; and many family members and friends who love Sonny.
Memorial held 11:30 AM, Wednesday, October 16 at Levy United Methodist Church, 701 West 47th Street, North Little Rock, Arkansas. Burial following at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
