Wayne L. Hartsfield, age 78, of Alpine, died Friday, September 14, 2012. He was born on June 11, 1934, in Holly Grove, Hempstead County, the son of Jack Hartsfield and Gladys Cook Hartsfield. He was retired from Reynolds Metal Company, Patterson Plant after 30 years of service as the Maintenance Superintendant. A member of the Marlbrook Baptist Church in Blevins, he served as youth minister from 1958 through 1959; he was also a member of the National Rifle Association, Sierra Club, Worldwide Wildlife Federation, a supporter of the Humane Society and an honorary member of the Alpine Volunteer Fire Department. He was a strong supporter against the cruelty and abuse of animals and an avid bowler. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Vicki Hartsfield of Alpine; one daughter, Jackie Staggs of Nashville; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Philip Wayne and Robyn Hartsfield of Glenwood, Stanley Alan Hartsfield of Blevins and Robert Michael and Mechelle Hendrix of Bismarck; ten grandchildren, Courtney Hampton, Stephanie Nolte, Chris Hartsfield, Ki Hartsfield, Haley Quick, Haylee Barnett, Allee Hartsfield, Dani Hartsfield, Zoe Hendrix and Declan Hendrix; nine great-grandchildren; one brother and his companion, Bobby Hartsfield and Carolyn Jordan of Shreveport, Louisiana; and one sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Forrest Hutson of Hope. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, September 17, 2012, in the Golden Cemetery near Arkadelphia with Bro. Don Jones officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon, 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. The family requests memorials may be made to the Alpine Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 1, Alpine, Arkansas, 71920. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
