William Gordon “Buddy” Brown, Jr., born August 26, 1935, and passed away September 3, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. He leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, Carol Ann Morrison Brown; children, William Brown III, Teresa Ellithorpe, Pam Crosswhite (David), Robert Brown (Linda); as well as his grandchildren, Anthony Rose, Jason Rose, Jonathon Martin, Keegan Brown, Robert Brown, William Brown, Briana Bohannon, and Kianna Ellithorpe; along with 13 great grandchildren.
Buddy proudly served in the U.S. Navy Seabee Unit. He was stationed at Lake Mead Nevada Naval Base, where he was involved in the building of the Atomic Bombs.
Buddy’s family was one of the pioneer Little Rock families, who settled in 1838. His father started Brown Packing Co. Inc in the 1940’s.
Buddy Brown was well known in the horse business. His father was the first quarter horse breeder in Arkansas. Buddy bought his 1st quarter horse in 1948 and started breeding quarter horses in 1951. Buddy was honored by receiving an award from the Palomino Horse Association Breeding Association (PHBA) - “Hall of Fame Breeder”, as well as a “50 year Breeding Excellence” from the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA). He judged shows for AQHA, IBHA, ARBA, & PHBA. He also served as President of the Palomino Horse Association. In 1981 at the American Quarter Horse Congress Show, his stallion, The Intimidator won GRAND Champion Stallion. His mare Emotions (daughter of the Intimidator) won Grand Champion Mare which made the first in history to win both Grands for a Sire & Daughter.
Later in life, Buddy became an avid reader, loved watching football games and other sporting events, traveling to Hawaii, and cherished his church and family.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Copperas Springs Baptist Church, followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Monk Cemetery.
