Listen to Obituary

William Harold "Buddy" Akin, age 81, of Beebe, Arkansas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, January 10, 2026. Born on May 29, 1944, in Beebe, AR, at his home. He attended Beebe Public School where he participated in basketball and track, known as "Swifty". He also attended ASU Beebe College before serving in the National Guard. After the tragic death of his parents, he inherited and loved working on the small farm where he raised cattle, harvested hay and raised horses for pleasure. He enjoyed taking care of the farm by bush hogging, mowing, fishing, and picking up pecans which were shared with many. He owned one of the last full service gas stations in Beebe, where he serviced many cars. He will be affectionately remembered as the man who sat on his porch in his later years watching traffic, with a friendly wave from the honks he received.

Buddy deeply loved his family and the community he called home. Throughout his lifetime, he served others in several roles, always willing to step in where he was needed and never seeking recognition. He was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. He was known for his steady presence and practical wisdom; Buddy could figure things out and fix just about anything. He approached life with patience, humility, and determination, earning the respect of all who knew him.

Buddy was a devoted husband and a proud father to 3 daughters. Though he was outnumbered in a house full of strong women, he never complained-choosing instead to love, support, and provide with unwavering dedication. He will be remembered for his kindness, gentle strength, and the lasting impact he made on his family and others. Buddy's legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the example he set.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Loretta, his parents Robert Lee and Janie Elizabeth Akin, his brother Bobby Akin and a sister Carolyn Utley.

Buddy is survived by his 3 daughters, Shannon Todd (David) of Beebe, AR, Kelli Kersey (Bo) of Beebe, AR, and Angie Longing of Conway, AR, 7 adoring grandchildren and 9 precious great grandchildren, and one on the way. He is also survived by his sister Wanda Williams of Memphis, TN, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
