William Nathan Clingan, age 82, died of natural causes on November 8 in Hays, KS.
Nathan was born August 10, 1933, in Arkadelphia, AR to George W. and Mary E. (Hardin) Clingan.
He was a graduate of Arkadelphia High School. Nathan served two years in the Navy, briefly taught history at Delight High School and served 18 years in the Air Force, including tours in Japan, Texas, Alaska, California, Thailand, Turkey and Illinois. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars and was assigned to NATO. His Air Force career included acting as crew chief on EC-121s over Vietnam and coordinating refuge airlifts while at MAC headquarters.
He retired to Arkansas where he worked in security at IP and Carrier. He was a deacon and taught Sunday School for many years. He enjoyed music from a wide range of genres and reading history.
He is survived by sons: Michael Clingan (Stephanie) of Loveland, CO; Timothy Clingan (Shelley) of Fayetteville, AR; and David Clingan (Jessica) of Hays, KS; and grandchildren: Michelle, Mallorie, John, Kelly, Elizabeth, Savannah and Meghan.
He was preceded in death by a son, Steven; sister, Carolyn Tanner; and wife, Ann.
Services will be held Friday at 10:00 am at Second Baptist Church in Arkadelphia with burial to follow at Rose Hedge Cemetery in Gurdon. There will be no formal visitation. Sign the online registry at
