William Spencer,

William R. "Gick" Spencer, Sr., 88, of Little Rock, died on August 19, 2012 at St. Vincent's Infirmary in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his son, William R. "Bill" Spencer, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joyce D. Spencer and his sister, Esther Clevidence of Little Rock. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, William R. "Spence" Spencer III of Tampa, Florida, April Spencer Wyatt of Valdese, North Carolina, Austin Spencer of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Taylor Spencer of Little Rock; and his five great-grandchildren, Lauren Spencer, Carter Wyatt, Samuel Spencer, Thomas Spencer and Autumn Wyatt.
Gick Spencer was born on August 25, 1923 in North Little Rock and graduated from Little Rock Central High School. He served with the Civilian Conservation Corps, and during World War II, served as a radio operator in the U.S. Coast Guard. He graduated from Little Rock Junior College in 1948 and the University of Arkansas in 1950 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Gick worked for over 30 years with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District, before retiring in 1979. He also served in the U.S. Navy Reserve, retiring at the rank of Commander.
Gick was a life-long member of the First Church of God in Little Rock. In the latter years of his life, he attended Community Park Church in Bryant where he faithfully taught the senior adult Sunday School class. He will be greatly missed by his family who loved him and all of his friends.
Gick's family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21 at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.). Services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Wayne Putman, followed by interment with Military Honors at Roselawn Memorial Park.
