Willye Holcomb

Willye Theresa Gann Holcomb, age 94, of Little Rock, departed this life to live in eternity with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 19, 2014 at her home in the presence of her family. She was born on April 5, 1920 in Mansfield, AR. She was the daughter of William J. and Annie J. Gann, and the ninth of nine children.

Willye graduated from Mansfield High School in 1937 and went on to earn a BS in Home Economics from Ouachita Baptist College in Arkadelphia, graduating in 1942. Thereafter she taught school, first at North Little Rock High and later in several Little Rock elementary schools. Toward the beginning of her teaching career, Willye attended North Little Rock First Baptist Church, where she met John David Holcomb; they married on November 8, 1946. They became the parents of three children, and grandparents of four boys.

In addition to teaching, Willye was an expert seamstress, woodworker, artist, musician, and an amazing cook. She enjoyed restoring antique furniture and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, John D. Holcomb; three children: Theresa Meredith (Sam); William David (Anne); and Timothy Edward (Margie); and four grandsons: David Meredith, Patrick Holcomb, Zach Holcomb, and Nick Holcomb.
A graveside service will be held at the Union Ridge Cemetery in Mansfield, AR on Monday, December 22 at 1:00 p.m.

The family would like to thank Paula and Rose from the staff of Arkansas Hospice and Shemika from the staff of Home Instead for their compassion, assistance, and excellent care.
