Alice Mathis

Alice Modine Mathis, 95, was born on November 23, 1924 to the Late Bose and Mae Morris.  She married the love of her life, the late Cecil Mathis on May 1,1945, where her journey of hard work and excitement would lead her over many parts of Holly Grove and Cabot Arkansas. She leaves behind 9 children, Wilma (Tony) Stewart of GA, Carroll (Teresa) Mathis AR, Wayne Mathis AR, Danny Mathis, AR, Kaye (Karry) Griffin, GA, Gerald Mathis, AR, Gary (Patti) Mathis, AR, Preston Mathis, AR, Ann (Greg) McFadden, AR; sisters Christine, Mary and Betty, Doc her dog. She had 25 grandkids with 2 deceased; 45 great grandkids, 3 great great Grandkids, several nieces, nephews and friends. She preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother Thomas Alvan Morris and 2 grandsons.

Alice was a sweet soul, who loved to dance. Always had a smile on her face.  She loved her family with her whole heart.  She was a force to deal with though if you got her upset. She loved to tell stories of her growing up days and of the things her kids got into when they were growing up.  She would laugh while telling the story and you could see in her eyes that what she was about to say would make someone’s face turn bright red.  You can bet that person wanted to dispute what she was saying just to take the eyes off him or her. Anywhere she went she wanted her sisters to go with her.  She always said the more the merrier and she meant that. Alice was the Queen of Woodruff County Health Center.

The family would like to thank the special care she received at the Woodruff County Health Center in McCrory AR.  The nurses and aids who watched over her and told great stories of her years at the Center. The love and support of all the friends of Alice and the family are greatly appreciated.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 8 at Smith-Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe.  A service for immediate family is 11:00 a.m. Thursday.  State of AR COVID-19 directives will be followed; including social distancing and face mask requirements.  Arrangements by Smith-Westbrook Funeral Home.   www.smithfamilycares.com
