Alma Cobb

ALMA JEAN COBB died peacefully on Wednesday, July 1 at Brookdale Assisted Living. Jean was born in Centralia, IL on November 25, 1925, the second of nine children of Charles Stacy Marcum and Birdie Agnes Brasel Marcum. She was baptized at the age of 17, along with her future husband, Garvin Loren “G.L.” Peters. A few years later, G.L. started his ministry as a gospel preacher and Jean served as Minister’s Wife in Churches of Christ in Effingham, Springfield, Christopher and Pittsfield, IL; Jamesport, Waynesville and Moberly, MO; Russellville, Oil Trough, Camden and Little Rock, AR.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, seven of her siblings, three husbands – Peters, Walt Crim of Kansas City, Frances Cobb of Nixa, MO, and grandson Aaron Sims.

She is survived by her brother, Lyle Marcum of Centralia, IL; children, Lora Hartwell of Dallas, TX, Gary (Nancy) Peters of Fort Smith, AR, Stacy (Kathy) Peters of Little Rock, AR, and her step-son Calvin (Cara) Crim of Chattanooga, TN; her grandchildren Adam, Ashley, Katie, Sam, Garrett, Ike, Skeet, Marcus, Jonathan and Carolyn, and 17 great-grandchildren.

It is impossible to write the complete story of Jean’s life with pen and paper. As her granddaughter, Carolyn wrote, referring to II Corinthians 3, “her story is not written with human hands on paper, but by the Holy Spirit Himself on the hearts of those she touched.”  Jean was hospitable, generous, cheerful, optimistic, talented, funny, strong, organized, articulate, and influential. She made three missionary trips to India and even had a personal conversation with Mother Teresa. She mailed hundreds of birthday cards each year to friends all over the world. She had a wonderful laugh and she hugged everyone. She made everyone feel valuable and loved. Every living thing flourished under her care – plants, animals and people. If God made it, Jean loved it. All she ever needed was for you to be happy.

Services will be private.  Arrangements by Smith Little Rock Funeral Home, (501)224-2200.  Jean’s online guestbook may be signed at www.littlerockfuneralhome.com.
