Anthony McMurry

Anthony “Tony” McMurry Jr of Sherwood passed away on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020.

Tony is survived by his wife Nicole, his two sons Dakota and Aidan; his mother and stepfather, Judy and John Leal; his siblings Jason Morris and wife Hayley, Andrea Landry and husband Justin, Amber Nolen and her husband Brett, Misty and Nikki; 8 wonderful nephews and 8 beautiful nieces (he did like things organized); more cousins and aunts and uncles and friends than one can count. He surely left us too soon. He is preceded in death by his father Anthony McMurry Sr.

Finding the words to describe Tony are difficult, if only because there are so many. He was so many things to so many people, even ones he didn’t know. He impacted lives without knowing. He had no idea how loved and admired and trusted and cared for he was. He was enigmatic; brave and soft, helpful and trusted; compassionate, kind and loving, and the most wonderful jackass; larger than life, when he walked into a room the party started; tough as nails, there was nothing he couldn’t do, nothing he couldn’t fix, certainly not if you said he couldn’t; he was a hero to many, ready to back you up without a thought; he was a man to honor his commitments, help anyone in need, and always be there when you call.

As the fix it guy, he was affectionately known as The Guru. After determining that a pool shark wasn’t a good career choice, he started in electronics when he owned a repair shop before eventually moving to mechanics. He finally found a perfect career by mixing the two professions together. He was a jack of all trades and the guy you go to when you need anything fixed. He loved to fish, he loved to hunt, he loved to be on the river. If he wasn’t outdoors, he was annoying you to get there. Old ladies and little kids loved him most. His charm was indulgent.

He will be missed. More than he will ever know. The world is a sadder place for the loss of him. No one could live up to Tony. Not even Tony.
