Bobbie Hesterly

Bobbie Erskine Hesterly passed away February 27, 2020 in Hot Springs Village. She was born May 21, 1932 in Hope, Arkansas to A.B. and Jane Erskine, the seventh of nine children. She graduated from Prescott High School as salutatorian, where she was in the band and a Curley Wolves cheerleader. She married her high school sweetheart, Otho Hesterly, nine days before he shipped out to Japan for the war in 1951, and they enjoyed 64 years of marriage before his death in 2015. A Little Rock resident for most of her life, Bobbie was a full-time mother to four children and an active volunteer. She taught Sunday School to children and adults at Pulaski Heights Baptist Church for 55 years, retiring only last spring. She also served as a church choir member, a Brownie leader, a PEO, a volunteer at CARTI, an election poll worker, and a member of the UAMS Faculty Wives. She and Otho hosted two AFS foreign exchange students in the 1980s. In recent years, she was a tireless caregiver to her sister Inez and then to Otho.

Bobbie is survived by her brother, James Erskine (Barbara) and sister, Betty Clark (Bill); four children: Patricia Tolbert (Charles), Leigh Ann Hicks (John), Ernie Hesterly (Teresa), and Janie Wilkerson (David); eight grandchildren: Rachel Kimbro, Jennifer Lopez, Christopher Hesterly, Garrett Hicks, Patrick Tolbert, Sara French, Steven Hicks, and Evan Wilkerson; and ten great-grandchildren.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 7 at 2:00 p.m., preceded by visitation beginning at 1:00, at Pulaski Heights Baptist Church, officiated by Dr. Randy Hyde. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Arkansas Baptist Children's Home or a charity of your choice.
