Charles Henry Mackey, Jr. was born on March 7, 1939, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Charles was the oldest of four children born to the late Lenora C. Mackey and the late Charles H. Mackey Sr. He departed this life on Monday, July 6, 2020, in Sherwood, Arkansas.
Charles was a 1958 graduate of Merrill High School in the Pine Bluff School District. After graduation he moved to Chicago, Illinois to live with his aunt, Flossie Myree. Soon after, Charles began working at Goodwill Industries and later became the trainer of new employees. He also worked as a clocksmith on the eastside of Chicago and it was this job that gave him his greatest satisfaction while employed.
As a child, Charles was a member of Wright’s Chapel AME Church. As an adult, he was a very spiritual person and always believed in treating people as he wanted to be treated, being fair and honest. He had a loving and kind soul to not only his family but also to friends and associates. He was fiercely independent wanted others to see him rather than his disability.
Charles is now joyfully reunited with his father, mother, and sister Lucille in Heaven.
He leaves to cherish his valiant spirit and memories: sisters, Marva Mackey Nash and Paulette Mackey Blevins and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Family hour will be 9:30AM Wednesday, July 15 with funeral following at 10:00AM at Smith-Sherwood Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 11:30AM at Shiloh Cemetery in White Hall.
