Charles Troutman

Charles Ray Troutman, born January 12, 1934 in Elm City, North Carolina, passed away from this world at his home on Sunday, June 14, 2020 at the age of 86.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Worth and Celia Troutman, and brother, Erwin Page, all of North Carolina.

Charles spent his early years in the North Carolina, graduating from Elm City High School, and joined the Air Force during the Korean Conflict.  While stationed at Little Rock Air Force base, he met his future bride, Barbara Gunter.  They were married in 1957, and spent 63 years together, most of those in the 16th Section area.

He was a faithful member of the Woodrow Church of Christ of Vilonia, Faulkner County, Arkansas.

Charles had a multi-faceted career starting as an aircraft and diesel mechanic, insurance salesman, Nabisco salesman, farmer, poultry house owner, cattleman, dairyman, owner of several convenience stores, and owner/operator of Troutman Oil.

Charles was a staunch democrat and loved politics.  He served fifteen years on the Lonoke County Quorum Court and ten years as the Lonoke County Judge.  During his administration, many projects were completed such as the new jail and two new health department buildings.

He loved baseball and played from his teen years until in his seventies.  He coached several teams in the Austin-El Paso area, and was an avid fan of the Cardinals and Yankees.

Besides his wife, Charles is also survived by three children; Toby (Sheryl) Troutman of 16th Section, Terri (Steve) Hallett of Cabot, and Amanda (Charles) Truesdail of Beebe, five grandchildren; John (Carrie) McNerlin, Dr. Tyler (Lauren) Troutman, Haley Troutman, Alexis Truesdail, and Will Truesdail, one great grandson, James Dean McNerlin.  Also surviving him are three brothers, Wallace Troutman of Swansboro, North Carolina; Wade Troutman of Wilson North Carolina; And Joe Troutman of Apex, North Carolina and two sisters Margaret Bell and Jean Dixon, both of Wilson, North Carolina and by many nieces and nephews.  Survivors also include his special “round table” buddies at the local BP store in 16th Section, and his beloved four-legged friends Lucy, Buddy, Fancy, and Smokey.

Visitation is Thursday June 18, 2020 from 6:00 PM- 8:00 PM at Smith-Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe.  Funeral service will be at Woodrow Church of Christ Friday, June 19, at 10:00 AM.  Burial will follow at 16th Section Cemetery.  State of AR COVID-19 directives will be followed; including requirement of face coverings and social distancing.  Arrangements by Smith-Westbrook Funeral Home.   www.smithfamilycares.com
