Christopher Mathis, Sr.

Christopher Jerone Mathis Sr., 40, was called home on August 31, 2021, leaving behind his lovely wife, Iris Mathis, and four beautiful children, Kia, Christyln, Irias, and Christopher (CJ) Mathis.

Christopher was born August 8,1981, in Little Rock, Arkansas where he was raised by a village of loved ones, including his mother Rosalyn Petroff, stepfather, Timothy Petroff, Grandmother Melvia Mathis, his Aunts Lisa Mathis, and Karen Mathis. Christopher also leaves behind Uncles Michael Wesley and Larry Mathis.

Christopher was the eldest of three children, He loved his two sisters Courtney Petroff and Alysha Petroff, as well as his abundance of cousins and friends. Christopher was passionate, courageous, free spirited and treasured his family. Christopher was a loving Husband, Father and Friend.

Christopher served his Country. While in service he was a Network Switching Systems Operator-Maintainer. Christopher was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, GWOT Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Korean Defense Service Medal.

Christopher loved to sing, make music, and vocal train. Music was a gift he enjoyed. Christopher’s children best remember their father as being “nice, generous, and kind. He was the best father anybody could ask for”. Christopher’s children will miss his “tickle fights, watching movies together, and being a very great Dad”. In addition, Christopher’s children will remember their fathers “hugs, conversations, cooking, taking walks, and taking care of us”.

Christopher was loved and will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be 6:00PM-8:00PM Monday, September 13 at Smith-Sherwood Funeral Home (7700 Hwy 107). Memorial service will be 10:30AM Tuesday at the funeral home with burial following at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
