Danny R. Harkins, 75, of Little Rock, Arkansas passed away February 25, 2021. He was born in Camden, Arkansas, on July 8, 1945 to the late Hunter Edgar and Eula Kay (Ballard) Harkins.

Danny had a love for football from an early age that began at Mabelvale High and went through college at Monticello A&M. He was a member of Phi Lambda Chi Fraternity.

He joined the US Army and spent 1968-1969 in Vietnam. He extended his military service, joining the Army Reserve and retired as Colonel Danny Harkins. While serving in the Army Reserve, Danny began his career with the Arkansas State Police. He was an Arkansas State Police Trooper and appointed by Governor Bill Clinton as the director of ABC and ATF and then returned to the state police at a later date. He retired in 2002. Danny was a member of Holy Souls Catholic Church.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ricky Harkins.

He is survived by his son, Heath H. Harkins; daughter, Ashley E. Bourne; grandchildren, Hayden M. Harkins, Lacy R. Bourne and Brady E. Bourne; sister, Linda; and nephews, Rusty Loyd of Little Rock and Scott Loyd of Houston, Texas; and niece, Heather Baker of Little Rock.  He is also survived by a special friend and companion, Judy Austin and cousins.

Danny’s ashes will be inurned at the Arkansas State Veteran’s Cemetery. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
