Darrell Brown, born December 5, 1931 passed peacefully into eternal life on May 5, 2020.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Ollie Brown, and his grandson, Nicholas Swann.  He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara Brown; sons, Darrell Gene and Dale (Billie) Brown; stepchildren, Gayle Teague (Randy), Debbie Gullett (Randy), and Stephen Swann (Dee Ellen); 12 grandchildren, Kelly (Joel) Brown, Sam Teague, Hunter and Tanner Gullett, Matthew Swann, Elizabeth Hackerott, Michael Brown, Joey Brown, Teresa Brown, Christopher Brown, Jeanie Burce, Jennifer Shields (Marshall) and great grandchild, Lily Shields.

Darrell lived 88 years to the fullest. He served his country in the armed forces (Army) from 1948-1950. During his time in the army, he attended the Army Airborne School; widely known as “Jump School,” at Fort Benning, Georgia. Darrell was stationed for active duty at Okinawa Island, Japan and Korea.

He was a member and an officer of the Asbestos Workers Union, Local 10, and traveled to numerous work sites across the U.S. to oversee commercial insulation projects. He and Barbara loved to travel and were always ready for a new adventure. Darrell will be remembered for his humor, laughs, storytelling, and often considered his greatest successes in his life to be his relationships with family, friends and his church.

He was an inspiration to us all and will be missed by many.  A drop-in visitation will be held Wednesday, May 13 from 4:00PM–7:00PM at Smith-Sherwood Funeral Home (7700 Hwy 107). A private family service will be held Thursday at Park Hill Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Park Hill Christian Church or the charity of your choice.
