Edith Margaret Claypool Ellis, 94, passed from this life on October 21, 2021. She was born May 25, 1927, in Yell County, Arkansas to the late Steve and Laura Claypool. In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Austin B. Ellis in 2010; siblings, Louise Goates, Wanda Ellis, Joe Claypool, Dorthy Martin, and Doyle Claypool.

Edith was born and raised near Dardanelle, Arkansas.  In her late teens, she moved to Little Rock to attend business college while working at a movie theater.  In 1954, Edith and Austin Ellis married.  They moved to North Little Rock and were members of Rose City United Methodist Church until 1973 when the family joined Immanuel Baptist Church.  Austin and Edith remained members there until the time of their deaths.

Edith worked at the Arkansas State Revenue Department from 1968 until her retirement in 1988.  Edith was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend of many. Her home and table were always open to anyone.  Most importantly, she trusted in Jesus to satisfy God’s righteousness on her behalf.

In 2011, Edith moved to Parkway Village in Little Rock where she joined many friends in a retirement community.  In 2017, she moved to an assisted living facility in Winnsboro, Texas to be close to her children.  In 2020, she moved to a group home care setting in Dallas, Texas where she lived until her death.

Those left to celebrate her life include children, Gregory Don Ellis (Brett), Winnsboro, TX; Steven John Ellis (Sharon), Dallas, TX.; sister, Sue McGee and a host of extended family and friends.

Visitation will begin at 9:30am Thursday, October 28, 2021 at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home, with a funeral services beginning at 10:30am. A reception will take place immediately following the service. Interment will follow the reception at Rest Hills Memorial Park in North Little Rock at 1:00pm. Rance Claypool, Gabriel Ellis, Philip Ellis, David Heffington, David May and Dwain May will serve as pallbearers. Clay Claypool and Daniel Ellis will be honorary pallbearers.
