Frances Ming

Frances Fox Ming age 102, of Caddo Valley, passed away Friday, January 29, 2021 at her home. She was born August 27, 1918 at the family home in Sunflower, Mississippi to Richard Creed Fox Jr. and Frances (Gillespie) Fox. At eighteen months old Frances’ mother died giving childbirth and little Frances was cared for  by both the Fox and Gillespie grandparents. Frances spent many happy days living with her grandparents. When Frances was seven years old, her father remarried. Frances stepmother was Montyne Moody of Clarksdale, Mississippi. She became a loving and caring mother for Frances and her two brothers, George, and Dick, were joined by three more siblings, Allen, Ellen, and Douglas Fox.

Frances attended Bellhaven College for Women in Jackson, Mississippi. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education in June of 1940. She started a short teaching career at Benoit, Mississippi. While there she was introduced to Frank Harrison Ming, who was always called “Buck”. Buck was well known in the Delta and in Bolivar County having been the youngest man to ever run for the office of county sheriff. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Shelby, Mississippi, firmly against the sale of alcohol and thus lost the election. However, he did not lose Frances.  Buck and Frances were married in June of 1941. In 1947, a daughter, Frances Fox Ming was born and in 1951, a son, Robert Fulton Ming was born. Frances spent her time raising the two children, being a Sunday School teacher and active in the children’s school as a home room mother.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Frank Harrison “Buck” Ming; and her siblings.

Survivors are her children, Fran M. Wilson of Dayton, Ohio, and Bob Ming of Caddo Valley; three grandsons, Ethan, Darren and Garrett Haper of Dayton, Ohio; four great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Paxton, Madison and Elle.
