Geren Gaither

Geren Williams Gaither, age 78, of Bismarck, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2021, at the VA Hospital in Little Rock. He was born March 13, 1943, to O.W. Gaither and Truman Dovey (Jones) Gaither in Arkadelphia. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 27 years, Karen (Langford) Gaither, his stepson George H. Darras; his parents; brother, Bill Gaither; and sisters, Margaret, Juanita, Betty, Jo Ann, Jane, and Polly.

Geren joined the Navy as a young man, and then had a long civilian career in electronics in Houston, TX. He worked in a range of settings, including schools and private companies. In 2008, he and Karen retired to Arkansas. He enjoyed spending time with family, listening to music, collecting and watching movies, and experimenting with a range of artistic techniques, including painting, drawing, woodworking, metal sculpture, writing, graphics, and photography. He leaves behind many cherished creative works. In his last few years, he especially enjoyed playing bingo with the senior group at the Bismarck United Methodist Church, where he built many special and fulfilling friendships.

Geren is survived by two daughters, Page Gaither of Austin, TX, Alex Mihalich (George) of Fairbanks, AK; son, Gerry Holt of Texarkana, TX; grandson, Tyler Holt; two brothers, James “Bud” Gaither (Rosie) of CA, Kenneth Hubbard (Diane) of CA; nephew Kevin Kemp (Nan) of UT, and many other nieces and nephews.
