Humberto de Leon

Humberto Martinez de Leon, 92, of Sherwood passed away October 27, 2019.  He was born to the late Rev. Tomas de Leon and Maria Magdelena Martinez de Leon on March 14, 1927 in Laredo Texas.

He was a three-war disabled veteran, having served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, earning the AFCOM, 2 Bronze OLC, AFOUA, Army GCM, AF GCM, Brz OLC, WWIIVM, AOM(Europe), Berlin Air Lift DVC, AF Occ Mdl (Pacific) Japan, NDSM, KSM, VSM, AFLSA, 2 OLC, USAF NCOPME Grad Award, SAMER with Rifle Bar, AF Rbn W/ Carbine Bar, UNSM, RVNCM, 50th Anniversary KWSM.  He retired as a MSGT after 30 years of service.  After retirement he continued in Civil Service at Little Rock Air Force Base.

Humberto had many talents and accomplishments.  Humberto loved music and playing the piano, bass, and regular guitar.  He was an accomplished country and western music entertainer throughout his life.  Humberto held a license in real estate and graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Business.

He is preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Betty Jean Hobbs de Leon; four brothers Joel M. de Leon, Manuel C. de Leon, Gus M. de Leon, Mike M. de Leon; three sisters, Naomi de Leon, Judy Martinez, and Ruth de Leon.

He is survived by six children; Curtis Clark (Irene), Douglas de Leon, Yvonne de Leon, Tina de Leon (Charles Casse), Penny Wallett, Michael de Leon (Vikki); six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; two brothers Tomas de Leon and Rene de Leon, and sister Mary Quintero.

Graveside service will be 11:00 AM Friday November 1, 2019 at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
