James Sobczak

James Stanley Sobczak, Sr. known to his family as Jim, Daddy and “Pop” by
his grandchildren and great- grandchildren, peacefully passed from this world on
Friday, October 30, at 5:56 pm. His daughter, Janna Kerr and his oldest
granddaughter, Kristi Kerr, were with him when he drew his last breathe of the air
of this world and stepped through the door of eternity into the waiting arms of our
Lord. Our beloved Daddy and “Pop” was preceded in death by: his parents,
Andrew Sobczak and Anna (Krol) Sobczak, brothers- Dennis Sobczak, Larry
Sobczak, Donald Sobczak, Robert (Bobby) Sobczak, and his step-son Jerry
Burris.
Jim leaves his wife of 53 years, Marsha (Crowder) Sobczak, 1 daughter- Janna
(Sobczak) Kerr, and 2 sons- Jimmy Sobczak and Jeffrey Sobczak. There are 12
grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Jim was born on December 16, 1943. He grew up on a farm outside of Duluth,
Minnesota. He had 4 brothers with him that grew up working on the family farm.
Being from Duluth and well acquainted with what real cold feels like, he
headed  “south“ to Chicago in 1961 where he attended the Devry Institute of
Technology.  He decided that Chicago wasn’t warm enough for him and he
stayed south of the Mason-Dixon Line and even learned how to talk without that
Minnesota accent!!!
Jim served for 8 years with the Air Force. He served with the 355th Maintenance
Group that served the 355th Tactical Fighter Group based in Thailand. He put his
technological prowess to good use as he was assigned to install and maintain
the electronic warfare devices on the F-105 and most notably the EB-66.
Jim was awarded The Commendation Medal for his work during 1968 for not only
maintaining but upgrading and improving the reliability and effectiveness of the
electronic counter measure devices. His work literally saved lives of current and
future aircrews as these devices were critical to jamming the enemy’s radar,
detecting middle launches, and jamming the radar of mistakes that were fired at
the aircraft.
Jim was stationed at the Little Rock Air Force Base where he met and married
Marsha Crowder, his fire-haired maiden. They were married on December 16,
1967. Their first baby, Janna Sobczak, was born 11 months later followed by
Jimmy and Jeffrey.

Jim opened “Executive Business Machines” in North Little Rock and worked
there until he retired, or as Jim said, “Got Tired” around 2000 and sold the
business.
Jim never met a stranger. He would bring a smile to the face of every waitress,
bank teller, or checker at the grocery store. You knew it when Jim walked in the
room or answered the phone with a “Good Morning!!!”, even if it was 9:00 at
night. Our family has learned many phrases over the years from Pop such as

“What can I do you out of?” “Were you born in a barn?” “Stand up and take a
load off”, to name a few. You never saw him without a smile and if you didn’t
have one, he would fix that. His faith in Jesus was solid, and we will miss him
very much but we know things just got livelier in our Lord’s presence as Jim has arrived!
