Jeffrey G. Davis, Sr. of Benton, AR passed away surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, January 6, 2022.  He was born at his grandparents’ home in Sheridan, Arkansas, February 1, 1947.  He was preceded in death by his parents Toyee G. and Sarah Laverne Springer-Davis, brother-in-law and sister, Ken and Sarah Anne Davis-Bowling, father and mother-in-law, Willie and Ruth Hunsinger and brother-in-law, Terrell Hunsinger.

A loving husband, father and provider, Jeff accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age.  Jeff had a beautiful singing voice and loved music.  Graduate of Clarksdale-Coahoma County High School, Clarksdale, MS, he was 1st chair tenor sax, and attended the University of Southern Mississippi.   He was a choir member and/or part-time music director in a number of churches in Florida, North Carolina, and Arkansas.

Jeff enlisted in the US Navy in 1966 reaching the rank of Hospital Corpsman 1st Class (E-6), called “Doc” and served on-ground in Vietnam attached to the 1st Marine Division in just south of Da Nang in An Hoa.  After his enlistment he became a licensed optician working with Dr. McDonald, Springdale, Dr. Schwartz, Little Rock and moving on to owner/operator of Texas State Optical, Little Rock and Davis Optical, Benton before retiring from Simmons Eye Clinic, Benton, AR.  He loved to joke around and make people laugh and often sang while doing so.  He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Voncille Hunsinger-Davis, whom he met while both were stationed at NAAS Whiting Field, Milton, Florida; sons Jeff and Jason Davis, Benton; daughters Virginia (Wallace) Wyeth, Alexander; Jennifer (Patrick) Lunsford, Benton; grandchildren, Jonathon (Kayla) Richards, Russellville; Samantha (Mason) Halsey, Matthew Wyeth, Little Rock; Noah Davis, Fort Smith; Hunter, Micah, Daniel, Abbie Lunsford, and Jasper Davis, Benton; great-grandchildren Claire Richards and Evelyn, Marigold, and Malcom Halsey; brothers-in-law—Robert Dennis (Kathy) Hunsinger, Dahlonega, GA and Jeffery (Regina) Hunsinger, Shilo/Manchester, GA, sister-in-law—Sue Hunsinger, Dahlonega, GA; aunts—Barbara Ann Springer-Williams-Fleming, Eastend, AR; Thelma (John) Davis-Cowden-Moore, DeQueen, AR; Dottie Lou Davis-Norwood, Colorado and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services are scheduled at Smith-Benton Funeral Home, Benton, AR for Tuesday, January 18.  Visitation is to begin at 1:00 p.m. with funeral services at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel.  No graveside service.

The family would like to thank the Veterans Administration Clinics and Hospitals personnel, Family Practice Associates, Saline Memorial Hospital, Benton Fire Department and Ambulance Service medical personnel who contributed to Jeff’s medical care over the past several years.
