John Stotts

Dr. John Robert Stotts, 90, of Little Rock, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2019. Born in Searcy, Arkansas on October 5, 1928 to Levi O. Stotts and Esther Lindsey Stotts, he attended Hendrix College and went to pharmacy school in St. Louis. He joined the Army and was stationed at Dougway Proving Ground and later at the Pine Bluff Arsenal. Upon leaving the Army, he used the GI Bill to attend medical school at UAMS, and worked as a pharmacist while he earned his medical degree. Dr. Stotts built a family practice in the Heights for 38 years, and also worked with Arkansas Teacher Retirement and the Arkansas Highway Department, reviewing medical charts. He was a football enthusiast who loved the Dallas Cowboys and the Razorbacks and was the team doctor for Pulaski Academy, Joe T. Robinson and other Little Rock schools. He was a lifelong student, continuing his medical education and maintaining his medical license until the illness of his wife last year.

Dr. Stotts was a 32nd Degree Mason, member of the Pulaski County Medical Society and the American Medical Association, and an American Family Practice Fellow. He loved to hunt and fish, and especially loved the times he spent with his family at "the cabin" on Greers Ferry.

He is survived by his daughters, Leslie Layton (Rick) of Little Rock; son, Chris Stotts (Pamela) of Rogers; son-in-law, Todd Lamb of Little Rock; grandchildren, Melanie Pickering, Lauren Pickering, Hope Layton, John Robert Stotts; and step-grandchildren, Grant Jenkins, Addison Bunch, and Ryan Layton. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 60 years, Carolyn Stotts, daughter, Allyson Lamb, brother, Leo Stotts and sister, Virginia Williams.

Special thanks are given to Drs. Mary and Robert Searcy and to Hospice Home Care.
