Lois Kirksey Barksdale, age 102, of Amity, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2020.  She was born June 7, 1918 in the Fendley community of Clark County to the late Tom Basley Kirksey and Elizabeth Deaton Kirksey. Lois was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Malvin Mynor “Pete” Barksdale; her five siblings: Leonard Kirksey, Stella Lookadoo, Amy Thomason, Anne Marable, and T.C. “Jack” Kirksey; her son Thomas Blake Barksdale, and her grandson Thomas Blake Barksdale Jr.

Known by her family as Mema, Lois was a member of the Amity United Methodist Church. She was a teacher in her young adult life and spent most of her working life as a businesswoman. Working daily into her early 90’s at Barksdale Lumber Company.  Her unparalleled work ethic started a family legacy that will live on for generations.  She loved gardening, cooking and spending time with her family.  Lois had a servant’s heart and was happiest feeding and taking care of her family.

Lois is survived by her daughter Kay Barksdale and her husband Michael Romine of Seattle, WA; 5 grandchildren: Cathy Roberts and her husband Ricky, Johnny Barksdale, Mickey Barksdale and his wife Kinley, Tessa Barksdale, and Perrin Romine and her husband Josh Gurian; 6 great-grandchildren; and 2 great great-grandchildren.

A private family service will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2020. Visitation will be from 5:30-8:00 PM, Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home. Due to COVID-19 mandate face coverings and social distancing required. The family will be holding a Celebration of Lois' life next year in the Spring or early Summer when it is safe for friends and family to come together without the risk of the Covid virus.
