Lt. Col. Harrington

LTC (retired) Arnold David (Dave) Harrington was born to Prentice Other (PO) and Ester Harrington in Greenbrier AR. He passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on July 10th at Hospice Home Care in Little Rock with his bride of 62 year, Tina (Nutt) Harrington singing “How Great Thou Art” to him. Dave had 4 brothers, Charles, Parker (deceased), Robert and Mark. Tina and Dave have three sons and daughter in laws, David Anthony and Gayla Marie Harrington, Gregory Scott and DeLinda Harrington, and Michael Steven and Flora Marie Harrington, along with 10 grandchildren, Luke, Leah (husband Rob), Elizabeth, John David (wife Scarlett), Rachel,  Rebecca, Danny (wife Samantha) Savannah (husband Matt), Madeline, Morgan,  and two great grandchildren, Rosie and Judah, with one more on the way

Education:

Dave graduated from Flippin High School, Flippin, Arkansas; He earned his Bachelors of Arts from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas; He also graduated from the Army Command General Staff College, Ft Leavenworth, KS; earned his Masters Degree from Pepperdine University, Malibu, California; and completed his Senior Managers in Government  post graduate studies from Harvard University, Cambridge, MA;

Military Service:

Dave enlisted in the United States Army in 1958. He graduated OCS / Officers Candidates School (Class 2-62, Ft Benning, Georgia, he was included in the book “The Boys Of Benning: Stories From The Lives of 14 Infantry OCS Class 2-62 Graduates”, published in March 2013.  He served as an Infantry Airborne Ranger in Special Forces / Green Berets. Over his 22 years of active duty service he served in a variety of command, teaching and staff positions in the United States, Germany, South America and South East Asia including 2 tours of duty in Vietnam.  He resigned from active duty as a highly decorated Lieutenant Colonel in 1980, and was inducted into the Arkansas Military Veterans’ Hall of Fame in 2019.

Civilian Career:

David served as Vice President of LABI / Louisiana Association of Business and Industry, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 1981 through 1982

He went on to be the Director of AIDC / Arkansas Industrial Development Commission (Arkansas Economic Development Commission 1982 to 1993 serving under Gov Frank White, Gov Bill Clinton and Gov Jim Guy Tucker.

Under President Reagan, President Bush, and President Clinton he was appointed to the Intergovernmental Policy Advisory Committee working with the United States Trade Representative, Industry Policy Advisory Committee, and as an advisor to the US Secretary of Commerce and US Trade Representatives.

David entered the private sector in 1993 as the Chairman/CEO of Profile Industries with manufacturing company located in several states and Canada. He went on to be the President/Owner of Alumnitec Incorporated / Temple Industries with manufacturing locations in Jeffersonville, Indiana, Hot Springs, Arkansas and Malvern, Arkansas from 1996 through 2012.

He was also involved in numerous professional and civic organizations – Arkansas Board of Higher Education, Board of Directors of Arkansas Capital Corporation, Board of Directors of the Union Rescue Mission, President of the Northwest Gideon Camp, President of the Arkansas Senior Golf Association, Member Development Council and Business Advisory Council to the School of Business at Watchtower Better University, named 1993 Distinguished Alumni of Ouachita Baptist University, a member of Immanuel Baptist Church since 1980, Bible study teacher to several age groups, Deacon chairman 2012. Organizational chairman, Men’s Ministry.

Over the course of his almost 82 years, he impacted thousands of lives both directly and indirectly and left a mark, a legacy of service, sacrifice and integrity. Dave was always a leader with an attitude of faithful service yet he never sought recognition for any of his many achievements, but rather lifted up those around him. He faithfully served God, his family, his country and his state with honor but most importantly, he represented our Lord faithfully and fulfilled our commission as believers.

We will cherish these memories with gratefulness and do our best as his family to carry his legacy of Dave/Dad/Dah.

Special thanks to the staffs of Stonehaven Assisted Living in Maumelle, Sherwood Nursing and Rehab, and Hospice Home Care’s Comfort Care Center, as well as Dr. Micheal Berry, Dr. Morgan Sauer and their anointed caregiver Veneria Watts.

Dave fought the good fight, he finished his race, and he kept the faith.

Visitation will be held at Smith NLR Funeral Home at 10:30 A.M. July 14, 2020 with memorial service to be held at 11:30 and private burial service to follow.
