May Lee Polantz

May Lee Polantz, 85, of Cabot went to heaven in the early hours of July 23, 2021. She was born on November 22, 1935 to Herman and Lucy Pickard, in Cabot, Arkansas.

May Lee graduated from Cabot high school in 1953 and shortly thereafter began working for an insurance agent. It was there that she began preparing taxes for others. This led to a lifelong career of tax preparation until about three months ago when she became ill.  In 1956 May Lee met a young airman named Bob Polantz.  Soon they were married, a union that would last 58 years until his death.  In 1968 she and Bob opened Bob’s Garage in Cabot where she continued bookkeeping and tax preparation. Bob and May Lee built the business together until Bob passed away in 2015. May Lee and her sons continued to operate the shop, and the Polantz brothers will continue the family business.  Besides a brief time in Buffalo, New York , May Lee lived her whole life in Cabot, a community that she loved. In addition to serving the people of Cabot through the auto repair shop and tax preparation, she spent many years on the Cabot City Council as the first female Alderman.  May Lee will be greatly missed not only by her loving family, but by a host of friends and customers.

May Lee is preceded in death by her beloved parents and husband, as well as two brothers, Frank and Carl Pickard. Survivors include her two sons, David (Lynn) Polantz and Daniel Polantz of Cabot; a sister, Pat Smith of Fayetteville, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to express abundant thanks to Arkansas Hospice for the loving care given to May Lee and her family in the last six weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Arkansas Hospice  Foundation or any other charity of choice. Services will be conducted by her nephew, Pastor Michael Smith, on Tuesday, July 27 at 2 PM in Beebe, Arkansas, at Smith-Westbrook  Funeral   Home. Following the service there will be a short graveside service at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Cabot.
