Nancy Jones

Nancy Evelyn Ingram Jones was born on September 19, 1933, in Monroe, Arkansas to the late George Lewis Ingram and Hester Bertie Vaughn. She was the youngest of six children and the last surviving member of her family. She was 87 at the time of her death.

On July 9, 1949, Nancy married the love of her life, William Earl Jones of Aubrey, Arkansas. They were married for 60 years at the time of William’s passing. Nancy was a wife, homemaker, and mother, first and foremost. In 1977 she began her career with Wal-Mart. She retired from Wal-Mart in 1993 and became a full-time Mamaw.

Nancy  was  preceded  in  death  by  her  parents,  George  and  Bertie  Ingram;  her husband William Earl Jones;  her five siblings, Elsworth Ingram, Leslie Ingram, Isaac Ingram, Annie Mae Ingram Wilson, and Marie Ingram Grigsby, and granddaughter Rebecca Jones.

Nancy is survived by her four children Janet Jones of Sherwood, David Jones (Sheena Snow) of Jacksonville, Tim Jones (Jennifer) of Beavercreek, OH, and Tony Jones-Stockli (Mark)  of North Little Rock; two honorary daughters Debby Henson Rutledge of Oklahoma City, OK, and Shannon Fulmer Sansom of Jacksonville; and eight grandchildren Kimberly Brothers (Louis), Kristen Jones, Jessica Jones, Elizabeth Franklin, Emily Jones, Victoria Jones, Taylor Jones (Whitney) and Leah Jones. She was also blessed with five great grandchildren Gabe Franklin, Makenzie Jones, Keaton Jones, Lauren Jones and William Brothers. Nancy was happiest when she was being a “Mama” and a “Mamaw”.

Words were important to Nancy. Her favorite pastimes involved words. She loved to read, play Scrabble, do crossword puzzles (in ink), write in her journals, and talk. Her spoken words were always gentle and kind, no matter what the message was. She was disciplined and read her Bible every day. She cherished God’s Word and made it a priority. It was the blueprint by which she lived.

Nancy began collecting rocks as a way to remember the many places she had been. It became a way for her to connect with friends and family when they traveled. Anytime someone was travelling she would always ask for a rock from wherever they were going. If you would like to honor Nancy’s memory please feel free to bring a rock to the visitation or funeral. We will add them to her collection. Her rock collection will be made into garden pavers and placed in her flower garden.

The family would like to express our sincerest gratitude to Dr. Michael Berry and Suzanne Mickel for the many years they cared for her, as well as the teams at Hospice Home Care and Smith Sherwood Funeral Home. Your kindness and compassion will be remembered fondly.

A visitation will be from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Thursday, June 3, 2021 at Smith-Sherwood Funeral Home (7700 Hwy 107). Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Friday, June 4, 2021 at the funeral home. Interment will be at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
