Nancy Kennedy

NANCY LOU WALLIS KENNEDY,79, of Little Rock went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on April 9, 2021. She died at her home with her family by her side. She was born March 27, 1942 in De Queen, AR to the late Ryman and Mary Wallis and was their only child. She lived with her parents in Lockesburg, AR but attended school in De Queen where her mother taught. After the 10th grade, her mother accepted a teaching position in Magnolia, AR where Nancy attended high school and graduated in 1960.  She attended Southern Arkansas University (formerly Southern State College) for two years where she met Jerry Kennedy. She transferred to Henderson State University (formerly Henderson State College) in 1962 and graduated in 1964 with a degree in English.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jerry, her daughter, Joely Kennedy Fletcher of Little Rock, AR, her son Greg Kennedy (wife Christine) of Centennial, CO, granddaughter, Natalie Fletcher of Little Rock, and grandsons Blake and Luke Kennedy of Centennial, CO.

After graduating from Henderson, she taught school in Pine Bluff, AR before marrying in August, 1965. She then went on to teach English and Spanish for four years. After the birth of the couple’s daughter they moved to Jackson, TN for 2 years where she was a stay at home mom. After a couple of years, the couple moved to Hot Springs and then to Little Rock where their son was born. Nancy taught piano in her home for approximately 15 years until the couple moved to China in 1995 for 4 years. While overseas, the couple was able to travel within China, along with visiting other countries, including Bali, Thailand, and Australia. After returning home, they continued their love of travel within the US.

She was a member of Bible Study Fellowship and Community Bible Study for many years. She was also very active in her church (Fellowship Bible Church), serving in Women’s Ministries and in small group ministries. She was also a long time annual worshipper, camper, and Trustee of Ebenezer Campground in southwest Arkansas.

Nancy loved people. She was a gentle and gracious lady and the most genuine lady you would meet. She was a hugger! At church or other greetings, she was like a “butterfly”, fluttering from person to person, giving greetings and hugs. She loved to entertain in her home; having groups of ladies in for a neighborhood summer Bible study, a bridal shower, a baby shower or just a visit. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her love, compassion and kindness as a follower of Jesus Christ.

From her granddaughter, Natalie Fletcher:

“one day when we all get to Heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will Where we all see Jesus, we will sing and shout the victory”

my sweet geegee is now singing this hymn and is home with Jesus. this hymn has always held a very dear spot in my heart as grew up singing it with her a church camp. during a time of grief and pain the Lord has reminded me of this song and the powerful hope it holds.

this world is broken. It’s hurting. this past year we have seen so much this. Loss, anxiety, depression, sickness and grief. We can feel like these things are taking over. We feel as if there isn’t other side. We feel weighed down and hopeless but the most beautiful and hopeful thing is, cancer doesn’t have the final word. neither does death.

Jesus does. He is our living hope. We can live with the hope that one day this will fade away. As Revelation 21:4 says ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” This is temporary. All our pain, weeping and grief will pass away. This won’t last forever and there is another side. One day. One day we will be made new. One day we will be in heaven rejoicing with Jesus and what a beautiful and glorious day that will be!

my precious geegee lived a life that looked like Jesus. She made disciples, invited people into her home, led prayer groups, taught bible studies, and was the most loving and nurturing person I knew.
She was was a light for Jesus and she never met a stranger. As my grandpa says, she was like butterfly. Fluttering around to everyone she knew, talking with them, giving them a hug and showing them Jesus.

I miss baking sugar cookies together, skipping rocks, purple cow milkshakes and sleepovers after grandparents day in elementary school, reading bible stories, swinging on the swing while we eat ice cream, and our sweet wednesdays afternoons together every week in kindergarten. although my heart aches and I wish more than anything I could her another one of her stories, I know she is completely healed and is rejoicing in the arms of Jesus right now.

I love you always, GeeGee and will miss you everyday♥️
