Phyllis Carson

Phyllis Carson

Phyllis Ruth Carson (Saville), born on November 23, 1941 in Moorefield, Arkansas, and passed from her earthly body and into her Heavenly home, April 15, 2021.   She was born to parents Charles Omer and Geneva Saville and lived in various places around the state of Arkansas.  Phyllis had four siblings, brothers, Charles and Dean, and sisters, Jean and Olene. She played basketball in high school and served as the team manager.  On January 12, 1962, Phyllis married Edward Doyle Carson.

Phyllis worked outside the home for about six years at South Western Bell after marriage.  On Christmas Day, 1967, Phyllis gave birth to her and Doyle’s first son, Jeffery Doyle Carson (Cheryl Simmons Carson). Daniel Edward Carson (Angela Reddick Carson) arrived on May 29, 1970.   From then on, Phyllis was a devoted, stay at home mom making some of her children’s clothing and cooking all of the family's meals.  Homemade biscuits and gravy, country music on the kitchen radio, and perfectly risen yeast rolls at all special dinners are fond memories that were a reality even up until about a year ago.   Phyllis went back to working outside of the home in the early 1980s, when she took the position of secretary at Victory Baptist School.   She worked until 1999, the year Doyle retired from the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department.  Focused was shifted to grandparenting, as she and PaPa were busy with the care of their four grandchildren, Alex Carson (Danny and Angela Carson), Alysa Carson Anglin (Derek Anglin), Stephanie Carson Wise (Justin Wise), and Cathy Carson (Jeff and Cheryl Carson).  Seven months ago, this Gran and PaPa duo were also blessed with a great-granddaughter, Remington Hope Anglin (Alysa Anglin), which brightened her last few months.

There is no way to comprehensively capture someone’s life in just a handful of paragraphs.  As we come to grips with each of our own new realities without Phyllis being physically present with us, special memories invariably stand out.  We know that each of you share in many of these memories, and of course, have unique memories of your own.  We would love for you to drop us a note to let us know about your memories and what Phyllis’ presence in your life has meant to you.  We’d like to share some of our memories that immediately stand out to us:

Camping in Mountain View; staying with Aunt Jean and visiting with aunts, uncles, and cousins; summer vacation road trips to Colorado, Wyoming, and Florida; homemade Halloween costumes; eating catfish at the Catfish Hole; azaleas; Easter pictures in front of the wisteria; the best Christmas present ever (besides Jesus, of course) in the birth of her son Jeff; shelling purple hull pea and speckled butter beans; picking up fallen sticks from the many large trees in their yard;…and then there is the other category…homemade FOOD (not just immediate family, but even her sons’ friends remember her wonderful homemade biscuits and gravy); daily homemade meals, DESSERTS (…not an option, but always considered a must); homemade birthday cakes; hand churned homemade ice cream, countless varieties of cakes and pies; wonderful Christmas cookies (cocoons) and fudge; later in life Sam’s Italian Cream Cake and easier to “prepare” goodies.

Phyllis Ruth Carson spent her life loving her family.  On April 15, 2021 at 4:50 PM, she passed on to Heaven, surrounded by most of her close family, whom she definitely invested her love in, each and every day of her life.
