Robert Hodge

Robert Allen Hodge of Benton, passed away on Monday, September 20 at the age of 80 after a six-year battle with cancer.

Robert loved the Lord.  He loved his Men’s Sunday School Class.  Because of the pandemic, he had to do Sunday School class online with Dr. Mark Martindale’s Sunday School Class, but he loved that too.

Robert was born in Pittsburg, Texas on January 22, 1941.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Gus Thomas Hodge, Sr. and Lettie Marie (Cook) Hodge; brother, Gus Thomas Hodge, Jr., sister-in-law, Donna Hodge; brother-in-law, Charles Jones; and a nephew, Tom Hodge.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kathryn (Jones) Hodge; his two sons:  Michael Robert Hodge (Staisey) and Scott Allen Hodge; his beloved grandson, Lucas Michael Hodge; and brother, Dr. Randolph Hodge of Mt. Pleasant, Texas.  Also left to cherish his memory are a sister-in-law, Barbara Jones; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Annette Daniel; brother and sister-in-law Jerald and Lauren Jones; five nieces; four nephews; numerous cousins; and a host of friends who love Robert and will miss him always.

Robert served in the US Navy and did two years of active duty aboard the USS Chikaskia (1961-1963).  He married Kathryn on January 31, 1964, soon after his tour of duty in the Navy.

Robert started to work as manager for Sears Catalogue Sales after graduating from ASTC (now UCA) in 1966.  He managed stores in DeWitt, Sheridan, Malvern, and Benton.  He owned Family Shoe Store until it closed, after which he worked for Allstate Insurance and later White’s Furniture.

Robert was an avid fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks in all sports in which they competed and happily watched the Razorbacks recent win over the Texas Longhorns.  He was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed golf with friends and business associates.

He loved volunteering for Churches Joint Council on Human Needs.
