Simon Nhi A. Huynh

Simon Nhi A. Huynh, 64, passed away in his sleep Thursday morning, November 26, 2020, in his home in Sherwood, Arkansas.

He was born October 17, 1956, in Saigon, Vietnam, to the late Xuan Vi Huynh and Mui Nhi Cun.

Simon is survived by his wife Hyon “Suki” Huynh of 31 years; daughter Christina Huynh; step-daughter Sheena Faulkner, her husband Jason Faulkner and son Carter Faulkner; brothers Steve and Frankie Huynh; sisters Mai Thi Huynh, Mui Vi Huynh, and Anh Huynh; sister-in-law Chin Sung and daughter Jennifer Cugini, her husband Lou Cugini and daughter Frankie-Rose Chaerin Cugini; and many loving nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and friends.

Simon was a kind and devoted father, an affectionate and thoughtful husband, a loyal and caring brother and son, and a generous and cheerful friend to everyone.

Simon was the second oldest child in his family. He served in the Vietnam War and later immigrated to the United States, becoming an American citizen in 1986 and settling down in central Arkansas.

Simon believed in possibilities. He was an optimist, always believing in the best of people, no matter their past journeys in life. For anyone who needed help, Simon was there right beside them, a steadfast friend during their time of need. His favorite saying was, “Don’t worry — be happy.” He loved to smile, to laugh, to hear other people’s stories and memories.

Simon believed in the value of good, honest work. He lived a quiet life but loved music, a passion that he shared with his daughter, Christina, and step-daughter, Sheena. His favorite type of music was rock and roll, and his nickname for Christina was “Little Rock and Roll,” and for Sheena, the older sister, “Big Rock and Roll.” Simon knew the words to the American songs he loved like the back of his hand and played his favorite records for the family on Sunday afternoons at home.

Simon loved to sing and to play guitar. His favorite pastime was fishing in his later years, and he enjoyed the stillness of watching the water and being outdoors. He also was fond of gardening, photography, and vintage cars.

Simon was courageous, compassionate, respectful, and humble. He cherished his family, parents, siblings, church, and friends — and they loved him dearly in return. He will be greatly missed.

A private funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2020, at the Living Water Baptist Church in Sherwood, Arkansas. Flowers are welcome and may be sent to the church.
