Stanford Thorne

Stanford James Thorne, 100, of North Little Rock passed peacefully on November 23, 2021. He was born in Wheatley, AR in 1921 to Charles E. and Verna Thorne.

He grew up in rural Arkansas and entered the Army to serve in WWII, including Seward, Alaska. In 1944, he married Mary Helen Luttrell. They opened a small jewelry store in 1954. With great skill and hard work, the business grew and required a move to a larger facility; bringing the business to Lynch Dr in North Little Rock. Retirement came in 1994 with a celebration that coincided with Stan and Mary’s 50th Wedding anniversary. Retirement gave him more time to enjoy gardening, woodworking, mechanic work, and fishing. He was great in the kitchen; often cooking the fish he caught, vegetables, and greens.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen; parents, Charles E and Verna; brother, Charles L Thorne; sisters, Mildred, Nellie and Margaret. Remaining to celebrate his memory are his daughters, Sandra Robbins and Sheron Ellis; granddaughter, Lara Parkhurst and great grandchildren, Tennessee, Lily, and Zeke Parkhurst.

Stan will be greatly missed by his family and friends who will remember him as a sincere, humble and great man.

Family will receive visitors at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home on Friday December 3, 2021 from 5:00-7:00pm. Services will be Saturday December 4, 2021 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park.
