Steven Leon Reed passed away at home in Little Rock late Friday night at the age of 75; his wife of 53 years, Alana, was by his side. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Leon and his mother, Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Alana; his children, Shannon (and her husband David) and Ryan (and his wife Carrie); his sisters, Lynne and Julie; and his grandchildren, Gus and Mack.
Steve graduated from Catholic High School, going on to receive a business degree from Christian Brothers University and a Masters in Hospital Administration from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Steve’s career spanned the fields of education and healthcare. He taught at Catholic High School in Little Rock and worked over forty years in fundraising and planned giving. This included serving as CFO for Arkansas Children’s Hospital during his 25 years there, as well as periods working for Baptist Hospital, Mount Saint Mary’s, and Christian Brothers University. In addition to his professional work, Steve was a passionate volunteer, chairing or sitting on more boards and committees than can be listed here.
Steve was an empathetic and kind counselor. He was pop to his son, poppy to his grandsons, a listener, and a joy to his friends. In their 53 years together, he and his wife Alana traveled as much as they could and were always looking for their next adventure. He will be missed by all who had the joy of knowing him.
