Virgil “Pawpaw” Louis Tarkington, 81, of Jacksonville, Arkansas. He was born in Oak Grove, Louisiana on December 12, 1939 to Orial Tarkington and Wanda (Tarkington) Barker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother of his children, Venita Tarkington of Jacksonville; daughter, and son-in-law, Kathy and Ronnie Harvey of Jacksonville; sisters, Margaret Jones of Batesville and Wilma Matthew of Viola and his brother, Carl Barker of Batesville.
He is survived by his Aunt Ofreda “Aunty” Edmondson of Jacksonville; his children, Timothy Tarkington and wife Karen of Jacksonville, Martha Tarkington of El Dorado Springs, Missouri, Louise Tarkington of Jacksonville; granddaughter, Victoria Pfauser and husband Eric of Jacksonville; sisters, Sue Wilson of Michigan, Bonney “Sissy” Mannis of Batesville; brothers, Charles “Hot” Barker of Batesville, Bill Barker of Batesville, Tom Tarkington of Booneville and numerous relatives and friends.
Virgil was a devoted father and grandfather and servant to his church family. Even when he retired after 43 years from driving his truck, he served as the head usher at his church, The Assembly of God in Cabot, Arkansas, as well as many other duties. “A Faithful Man.” Virgil loved going to breakfast and drinking coffee with his best friend, Jerry Baker.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at Smith-North Little Rock Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 8, 2021 at the funeral home. Burial will be 12:30 p.m., at Ouachita Cemetery in Donaldson, Arkansas.
